The school’s white paper & SEND reforms are out today, Monday 23rd February 2026. This marks the beginning of a 12-week consultation process ending at 11:59pm
on 18 May 2026.

The government has set out proposals to reform the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) system in England in its schools white paper.

The publication of a white paper does not change existing SEND law. Your child’s legal rights to support remain in place.

What we will be doing in Brent

We will be reading the white paper and associated documents to understand and be better places to inform and support. Brent Parent Carer Forum will be submitting and a formally response. we urge each of you also to submit your own feedback. This really is a once in a lifetime chance to comment on the proposed changes and new processes.

We will also meet with professionals in the LA and Health so gauge their feedback and look at areas where we can work together to ensure the feedback we give to the consultation represents the local picture in Brent.

Please see below our proposed timetable with details of meetings we are planning – dates for your dairies – more details to follow

W/c 23rd Feb- 14th April 2026

we will read individually and make notes and produce FAQ sheets as we go. Where possible so not to cause confusion and duplication we will combine regular information from Contact, Special Needs Jungle and IPEAS.

  • Based on the easy read documents we will develop a presentation, if there isn’t one as part of the communications from the Government
  • Set up short questionnaire to go out divided up under relevant headings.

We will set up times for parents to call if worried etc. will have a template to complete so we can ensure we capture a little about family make, postcode age , need and setting of each child YP. This will also allow us to ensure we feedback to the relevant MP

Important dates and times

14th April – 11th May – we will offer to attend coffee mornings in schools

  • Mondays and Fridays: 10-2 Mirela and I will be available to call you back please leave a message and we will do our best to respond by the end of the day.
  • Monday 13th April: we will meet as a management team at BPCF to discuss feedback to date and prepare for the forthcoming meetings.
  • Tuesday 14th April (at our office): 11-1.30pm drop-in sessions for parents to come ask questions, give feedback and we support you to feedback, we are hoping SENDIASS will be able to Join us?

  • Thursday 16th April: 11-1.30pm drop-in session at Chalkhill Community Centre in the café area for parents to come ask questions give feedback?

W/c 4th May -16th May 2026 BPCF to collate all feedback and write up to submit on time . Find your MP- it might be worth sending your MP a copy of your feedback

  • Thursday 23rd April: BPCF forum meeting 10-12pm where we will go over the reforms with yourselves, the LA and Health at our office
  • Thursday 23rd April: online evening forum meeting-7-8.30pm- repeat of above
  • Thursday 30th April or Friday 1st May: to invite the MPs back to hear directly from parents. TBC More details on all above to follow
